The story behind the cocktails
Cocktail Bar & Lounge Manager, Manuela Camilleri joined the Sopwell House team late 2018 and from the minute Manuela came on board she was keen to put her expertise to good use, starting with giving our cocktail menu a makeover. Manuela believes the best thing about working in hospitality is making people happy (which she loves to do!) and hopes to see a lot of happy faces in our Cocktail Bar & Lounge, sipping on delicious cocktails..
Why did you want to update the cocktail menu available in the Cocktail Lounge?
The cocktail list had variety but no identity, so we decided to incorporate the History of Sopwell House in the list.
What was your inspiration behind the timeline theme?
Sopwell has a great history so why not share it with our guests. We thought it would be cool to include important dates and important names of our history in our cocktails so it would be easy for the guests to understand where we came from.
Which cocktail would you recommend? Which is your favourite cocktail on the menu and why?
My favorite cocktail is the Master Mason, it’s a mojito style cocktail with grapefruit and mint, Bacardi and elderflower topped with soda – It’s basically summer in a glass!
Which is the most popular cocktail on the menu and why do you think that is?
The Cottonmill Egret – The cotton candy gets everyone, we can never have enough cotton candy in stock!
Which cocktail do you like the history/story of the most?
The Sipping Sopwell – Sopwell came from the practice of nuns dipping crusts of bread to give to travelers on the way to the shrine of St Albans. We took this concept and made a coffee based cocktail with a biscuit encrusted rim, instead of dipping the bread, you sip the drink with the same concept.
