National Tea Day
#NationalTeaDay
SOME THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE ALMIGHTY BREW.
If you were to search for ‘things associated with British culture’ it is likely that drinking tea or tea in general would sit near the top of the list, if not at the top. According to the tea and infusions organisation, it’s estimated that 60 billion cups of tea are consumed per year in the UK, it’s no wonder there is a whole day dedicated to the almighty brew.
Despite 165 million cups of tea being consumed in the UK daily, it turns out we’re not the largest tea drinking nation, Turkey and Ireland are estimated to drink beyond this, that’s more than 20 Olympic swimming pools worth of tea. Did you also know that it is takes around 2000 tiny leaves to make just one pound of finished tea, and with high quality teas these leaves are usually handpicked. Forget milk and two sugars, a lot more goes into your cup of tea than you think.
At Sopwell House we take pride in providing a warm and welcoming environment for all of our guests, even those simply visiting for a good cup of tea. We took careful consideration when selecting the most fitting tea provider for the hotel’s cocktail lounge and restaurant and we’re overjoyed to use Newby’s, a British organisation, founded at the turn of the millennium in London.
You’ll find the following Newby’s loose leaf teas on our menu; English Breakfast, Assam, Darjeeling, Hunan Green, Jasmine Peals, Fujian Oolong, Earl Grey, Apple Strudel, Mango and Strawberry, Ginger Lemon, Peppermint and Chamomile.
Newby’s mission states that ‘wherever you are, whoever you are, a cup of tea represents all the simple joys to be found in life’ and we couldn’t agree more. So whether you’re visiting Sopwell House to enjoy a morning brew in our conservatory, or treating yourself to an afternoon tea, take a minute to acknowledge the simple joy this classic, well-loved drink brings to your heart and soul.
