Sustainability at Sopwell House

At Sopwell House, we're dedicated to enhancing sustainability in every aspect of our operations. We're thrilled to share a recent update on our ongoing commitment to enhancing our ESG values.

Coffee Compost Bins

Each department has implemented Coffee Compost Bins. Recycling food and organic waste into compost offers numerous environmental advantages, such as enhancing soil health, curbing greenhouse gas emissions, and recycling vital nutrients.

Welcoming New Friends

Our garden team have been hard at work to create a space for several different animals and creatures to improve biodiversity and provides an important source of food and habitats which include a Wet Land Area, Hedgehog Hotel and Wildflower Meadow.

Kitchen Herb Garden

Introducing the creation of a stunning kitchen herb garden in our walled garden. This garden isn't just about adding fresh flavours to our culinary delights; it's a symbol of our commitment to sustainability and innovation. We're proud to announce that our kitchen herb garden not only supplies our culinary team but Octagon Bar with a variety of fresh herbs, adding a touch of nature to our guests' experience.

Sopwell Swifts

We've partnered with RSPB to help save the Swifts. Swifts are vital summer visitors to the UK, but their numbers have plummeted by over 58% between 1995 and 2018, landing them on the UK’s Red List and the IUCN European Red List. With just around 59,000 breeding pairs left in the UK, swifts are officially at risk of extinction.

At Sopwell House, we've taken the first step by installing two nest boxes. But our journey doesn't end there. We're committed to raising awareness of swifts throughout our team and the community by sharing information and organising talks with the Cottonmill Community Centre.
