We're truly committed to sustainability and positive change here at Sopwell House. Partnering with Earth Check, we focus on reducing environmental impact through energy and water efficiency, waste reduction, and sustainable sourcing.

Our dedicated Sustainability Officer leads the way, empowering staff to integrate eco-friendly practices.

OUR HOTEL

In our restaurants, we offer vegan and vegetarian options to encourage those looking to reduce their carbon footprint.

Coffee compost bins in every area that serves coffee of the hotel.

Whogivesacrap uses carbon-neutral shipping, and plastic-free products. We have chosen bamboo toilet paper which uses significantly fewer resources than conventional toilet paper.

We have implemented a new key system that uses recycled plastic keycards.

Focusing on sustainable tourism, achieved EarthCheck Bronze status December 2024.

Staff canteen cups from paper to glass & refillable soap bottles.

Elemis is a B corp, British brand with their products in our public areas & bedrooms.

Our in-house community is focused on ESG. We have started implementing separating paper cardboard plastic, general waste napkins, table clothes, tins, detergent products.

OUR COMMUNITY

Being involved with the Cottonmill Community Centre, attending regular meetings and events.

We are training select staff in Mental Health First Aid as well as aim to train all staff in Mental Health First Aid Awareness to ensure we can support everyone in and around the hotel.

At our annual hotel awards, we raise money via raffle for Rennie Grove.

We arrange a staff bake sale and wear it pink day to support BreastCancerNow each year.

We have been partnering with Oaklands College for apprenticeships, as well as placements.

Operation Christmas child, we donated filled shoe boxes and sent to Kenya with Samaritans.

OUR GROUNDS

To provide a new home for creatures such as frogs, newts, water voles, and dragonflies as well as producing naturalised habitats throughout the grounds, improving biodiversity and providing shelter for small mammals.

A wildflower meadow has been curated with over 22 different types of flowers, which will be an important source of food and habitat for many species of animals and pollinating insects

Using electric machinery exclusively to trim our hedges and shrubs to further reduce our carbon footprint.

With coffee grounds, tea leaves, teabags, ash from the reception fire.

A charming miniature kitchen garden filled with basil, rosemary, thyme, chives, parsley, oregano, and coriander will serve as both inspiration and a commitment to seasonal cuisine for both our restaurants and Octagon Bar.

Invested in Swift boxes which aim to save the endangered species and take part in the initiative. Environmental event with guest speaker.
