It’s Malbec Day!
Hi Fab, Happy Malbec Day & thank you so much for joining us to speak more about the wonderful and complex world of wine.
What makes a Malbec?
Thank you! I think what truly makes a Malbec is its distinct flavour profile. Malbec is a robust wine characterised by rich, jammy notes, vibrant red berries, and hints of cooked fruits, all harmoniously balanced. It’s lingering aftertaste leaves a comforting warmth, making each sip a memorable experience.
What is it best paired with & why?
In my opinion, red meat truly is best paired with a Malbec, as well as barbecue meats, with their charcoal-infused, smoky flavours and subtle bitterness conveyed by spices, perfectly complementing the robust and savoury tones of Malbec. In our new Brasserie Spring menu, our braised beef cheeks, cooked in a traditional style and finished with a reduced wine sauce, strike a delightful balance of sweet and savoury, making Malbec the ideal accompaniment to this dish.
What is an interesting fact about Malbec?
When it comes to Malbec, its history is what truly makes the wine fascinating. In 1868, it was declared the national grape variety of Argentina, and to this day, Argentina remains the powerhouse, producing 75% of the world’s Malbec.
What is the main thing anyone should look out for to choose the ‘perfect’ Malbec?
The ideal harmony of acidity, tanginess, and sweetness results in those luscious jammy undertones and cooked fruit flavours that emerge with each sip of Malbec. Its lingering presence on the palate after each sip is simply divine.
